LUNAS Welcomes Republic of Korea Delegation and HHI For Strategic Maritime Engagement
On 8th April 2026, Lumut Naval Shipyard (LUNAS) recently received a visit involving the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, H.E Yeo Seung-bae, the Defence Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Colonel Lee Seongkyun, as well as representatives from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), led by Mr. Lee In Su.
The visit programme commenced in the morning with a technical engagement involving the Defence Attaché and representatives from HHI, a continued engagement between both parties. The technical team undertook an in-depth assessment of LUNAS’s shipyard capabilities and future development outlook, as part of efforts to strengthen technical alignment and mutual understanding between both parties.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, H.E Yeo Seung-bae, was subsequently received later that afternoon by LUNAS Chief Executive Officer, Ir. Azhar Jumaat, together with senior management comprising the Chief Operation Officer, representatives from Corporate Strategy & Business Development and the LCS project team.
The visit serves as a testament to the growing interest from South Korea in strengthening strategic cooperation with LUNAS, Malaysia’s leading company in the maritime and shipbuilding ecosystem. This includes collaboration in workforce development, technology transfer and enhancement of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities, in parallel with the development of the Lumut Maritime Industrial City (LuMIC).
