The Malaysian Armed Forces Defence College (MAFDC) visited Lumut Naval Shipyard Sdn Bhd (LUNAS) on 2 August 2024 as part of the Master of Social Sciences (Defense Studies) course in collaboration with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). This visit aimed to gather the latest information on developments in the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) and their impact on national security. Sixteen MAFDC faculty members and 69 delegates participated in this visit.

The visit began with a comprehensive presentation by our Chief Operating Officer (COO), Cdr (R) Jal Shazidi bin Bassari where he provided an in-depth overview of LUNAS, including its background, key achievements, and past projects. A significant focus was placed on the progress of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) project, offering the delegates a clear understanding of our current endeavors and future objectives. Following the presentation, the MAFDC delegates were given a detailed tour of our facilities. This tour showcased our advanced shipbuilding and ship repair capabilities and provided a close-up look at the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) project.

This visit not only provided valuable insights into the ongoing and upcoming projects at LUNAS but also reinforced our commitment to delivering excellence. It emphasized our role in advancing national maritime defense capabilities and supporting regional security objectives. The engagement underscored LUNAS’s dedication to continuously enhancing its capabilities and services, further solidifying our position as a key player in the defense industry. Additionally, it highlighted our commitment to human capital development, showcasing our investment in training and upskilling our workforce to meet the evolving demands of the maritime sector and ensuring a sustainable pipeline of skilled professionals for the future.
