Lumut, 10 February 2026 β Malaysiaβs third Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), SHARIF MASHOR, was officially launched today in a ceremony steeped in naval tradition at Lumut Naval Shipyard (LUNAS), marking a significant milestone in the nationβs maritime defence capabilities.
The ceremony was graced by Tuan Yang Terutama Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar with the Naming and Launching of LCS 3 officiated by Yang Amat Berbahagia Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi.
The LCS Programme continues to showcase Malaysiaβs growing expertise in constructing advanced naval assets, strengthening maritime sovereignty and readiness to face future security challenges. The Maharaja Lela-class vessels, based on the GOWIND corvette design developed by Naval Group France, are the Royal Malaysian Navyβs most sophisticated warships, engineered for multi-dimensional maritime operations.
The name SHARIF MASHOR honours the historical figure who governed Sarikei in the mid-19th century who demonstrated unwavering courage and leadership in defending the region. Sharif Mashor played a key role in regional conflicts and resistance efforts during a turbulent period, leaving a legacy of determination, resilience and strategic insight. Naming LCS 3 after him symbolizes the continuity of bravery and commitment to protecting Malaysiaβs maritime interests.
The launch of SHARIF MASHOR reflects LUNASβs continuous commitment to building ships through people and towards the nation, under the leadership of LUNASβs Chief Executive Officer Ir. Azhar Jumaat, and represents a major step forward in strengthening Malaysiaβs defence industry and establishing the nation as a key regional maritime player.
